There was a time when gift giving was truly an art form. The giver would think of the recipient and how to best impress him or her with a thoughtful, well intentioned gift.
How do many of us gift shop today? A quick stop off at our local convenience store to pick up something for dinner and, oh yeah, might as well grab that $25 Best Buy
gift card so wonderfully placed in direct eye-shot when waiting to pay.
A few days ago I arrived home only to find a package waiting for me. Set aside the giddy excitement an unexpected package can induce, what was truly a surprise was
what the box contained. As I sat at my kitchen table, I carefully extracted the contents of the box. There it was. A personalized gift. There’s nothing quite like getting
a personalized gift. I have received many gifts in my life, as do many of us, but I must admit that when I received this and other personalized gifts, I always pause to
reflect on the thought it took. The idea that a friend or colleague who knows me a bit or perhaps knows me quite well took the time and care to give me a personalized
gift.
You see, when you give a personalized gift, you are telling the recipient a whole bunch of things. First, you are saying I know you well enough to get you something I
just know you will like. What do I mean by this? Well, let’s say you like hockey. A great personalized gift for you might be a hockey stick with your name on it. Second,
a personalized gift tells the recipient you took time and care to not only to think about what they already like, you have also taken the time to personalize the gift making
a unique item that will certainly be appreciated.
